On January 15, 2026, the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine of The University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) in Hong Kong, marking the establishment of a partnership in the biomedical field.

Prof. Nieng Yan, President of SMART, and Prof. Chak-Sing Lau, Dean of HKUMed, attended the signing ceremony and delivered remarks. Representatives from both institutions witnessed the event.

Under the MoU, the two sides will collaborate in areas including talent development, academic exchange, and research collaboration, leveraging their respective strengths in research, education, and international networks to provide broader development opportunities for outstanding students and young scholars. 

The partnership is an important step in advancing high-level cooperation between Shenzhen and Hong Kong in medical research and education, and will support the development of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area as a globally influential hub for life and health science innovation.
