On December 14, a strategic cooperation signing ceremony between the SMART and the Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT) was held. Ying Tan, Vice President of SMART, and Mr. Wei Zhao, Deputy Director of the SUAT Preparatory Office, executed the agreement on behalf of their organizations. The occasion was attended byXiaohong Chen , Deputy Director of the Guangming Science City Development and Construction Authority, and Ru Wang from the Science and Innovation Service Center of the Guangming District Science and Innovation Bureau, along with additional representatives from relevant departments.
According to the agreement, as two key science and technology innovation entities based in Guangming Science City, SMART and the SUAT will leverage their respective strengths. Their collaboration will encompass scientific research, academic exchange, and the development of research personnel. They will work together to explore new paths in research-driven education, using high-level scientific research to support the cultivation of innovative and versatile talent. Their shared goal is to enhance talent training quality and elevate scientific research standards, thereby jointly advancing the biomedical and clinical medicine sectors of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and contributing to the “dual development” of the Greater Bay Area.
During the signing event, both parties presented their development histories and guiding philosophies. SMART is committed to fostering pioneering innovation mechanisms and attracting and nurturing top-tier talent. It conducts comprehensive research and translation across the full spectrum of biomedical fields, from foundational studies to clinical research and industry applications. Its mission is to transform Shenzhen into a hub for biomedical talent and establish the city as a pillar of the biomedical industry in China’s Greater Bay Area. SUAT, as a new research-oriented university prioritized by Shenzhen, draws upon the strong scientific and educational resources of the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology. It is dedicated to integrating education with science and industry, offering interdisciplinary academic programs, and building a unique "three-in-one" talent development structure combining colleges, research institutes, and residential colleges. Its vision is to develop first-rate disciplines, strengthen industrial sectors, and cultivate top-tier, innovative talent for Shenzhen, the Greater Bay Area, and beyond.
Chen Xiaohong praised the collaboration between the two institutions and pledged Guangming District’s continued support. She highlighted that the collaboration between SMART and SUAT reflects the mission of the Guangming Science City and expressed her hopes for deeper collaboration in research and education.
Ru Wang emphasized the inseparable link between research and education, expressing hope that both institutions will forge a more profound and mutually beneficial partnership that promotes coordinated and innovative cooperation.
During the event, representatives from the SUAT also toured SMART’s facilities and engaged in discussions about coordinated planning and advancing various aspects of their cooperation.
