On December 10, the Shenzhen Medical Academy of Research and Translation (SMART) held its official inauguration ceremony. The event was attended by Secretary of the Municipal Party Committee Fanli Meng, and Deputy Secretary and Mayor Weizhong Qin , who presented the appointment letter to SMART’s newly appointed President, Nieng Yan.

In her remarks, Nieng Yan emphasized the organization’s commitment to innovation and research excellence. She expressed determination to establish the SMART as a world-class hub for talent cultivation, scientific research, and translational innovation in the biomedical field, driving progress across the Greater Bay Area, and influencing the global landscape.

Mayor Weizhong Qin expressed his hopes for SMART to align with the "Four Orientations" (frontiers of world science and technology, the main economic battlefield, major national needs, and the people's health) by conducting in-depth fundamental and applied life sciences research, aiming for groundbreaking "zero-to-one" original innovations. He affirmed the unwavering support of Shenzhen, encouraging relevant departments and districts to coordinate efforts and provide efficient services to foster the organization’s innovation and growth.

SMART aims to create a dynamic environment for fundamental and translational research, educational exchanges, innovation incubation, and policy advisory services, driven by a mission to stimulate groundbreaking advancements and attract top-tier scientific talent.

Municipal leaders Tao Yongxin and Chen Qing also attended the ceremony.
